As a volunteer at Stonegate Farm’s therapeutic riding program you become a key part of a team that strives to bring the benefits and joy or riding horses to children and adults with special needs who would otherwise have no access to this unique activity. If you are a rider yourself, then you already know the special bond between horse and human. Just watch the faces of our riders light up as they open the stable door, and you will understand what our horses, and the opportunity to ride, mean to them.
As a volunteer, you become central to the services we are able to offer. The safety and enjoyment of our riders depends on the skill and dedication of our volunteers. Our riders require up to three volunteers each to assist them. This program would be impossible without volunteers.
While the work we do is serious, there is always room for fun, too. Riding and working with horses is a delight for those of us who love these wonderful creature, and we should remember that recreation, a break from daily routines, and just plain enjoyment are among the benefits therapeutic riding provides for its participants. It should do the same for you, the volunteer.
No “horse experience” is necessary to volunteer with our program. We offer training and supportive mentoring. |
